DRESS YOUR WAY TO THE TOP

POWER SUIT

Well-tailored suit exudes confidence and authority while still being feminine and sexy.  Pay special attention to fit, fabric, and sleeve-cuff length: when your arm is straight down, the cuff should extend to about the wrist bone.  Make fashion statement with subtle details, color and accessories while maintaining professionalism.

From Top to Bottom: 1. Dolce & Gabbana Tropical Wool Peak Lapel Jacket; 2. Jil SanderCatharina cotton-poplin shirt; 3. Cartier Large Ballon Bleu Watch; 4. Christian Louboutin Décolleté 100 jazz pumps;  5. Proenza Schouler PS1 Medium satchel; 6. Tiffany Solitaire Diamond Earrings

The key in a suit is tailoring.  It is especially important for women as women have a vast number of variations when it comes to body type.  High end designer suits may have high quality fabrics and craftsmanship, but do not always fit your body shape.  Shop around and look for the right balance between fit, craftsmanship, fabric and price.   Perhaps made-to-measure or bespoke tailoring service is what you need to get that perfect power suit.

Here are some examples of real women looking so confident and chic in well-tailored suits.

WOMAN TEARS PICASSO

A woman participating in an art class at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art lost her balance, fell against a Picasso masterpiece, and caused a 6-inch tear.  Luckily the tear occurred near the lower right hand corner and can be mended, according to the musuem.

The painting is called “The Actor”, marking the shift from Picasso’s blue period to his rose period and was painted in the winter between 1904-1905. It is an unusually large canvas measuring 6ft by 4ft and shows an acrobat planted in front of an abstract background.  It was valued at US$80 million.

The Actor is not the first Picasso to suffer damage as the result of carelessness in recent years. In 2006, Steve Wynn, the Las Vegas casino mogul, tore Picasso’s “Le Rêve” with his elbow in his office while showing the painting off to friends.  At the time Wynn was reportedly ready to sell the work for US$139 million. After a $90,000 repair, the painting was evaluated to be worth $85 million.  $54 million drop in value – a very costly accident indeed.

TWO-IN-ONE SHOWER

Bathtub shower is a common solution in a small bathroom.  But like two-in-one shampoo and conditioner, you only get half of each.  For the  convenience of having both, you sacrifice quality and aesthetics.  Rexa Design, an Italian bathroom company, created this cool convertible shower bathtub design that combines style, luxury and function.  Go from shower to bathtub by removing detachable shower floor slats.  The tub is made from Korakril – a combination of acrylic resins and natural minerals. The dark laminate slats is the perfect complement to the tub’s minimalist shape and color.

Swanwick Ranch in Metchosin in Greater Victoria, Canada is a striking achievement of modern technology and environmental design.  The home was finished in 2006 and is 8000 sqare feet on 67 acres overlooking the ocean.  Its spectacular design features a canyon of water bubbling towards the ocean through cascading pools of water. These Elva Fields necklaces are a great way to add a little glamour and spark.

Unfortunately they are all limited edition, so most are currently sold out.  But I will for sure keep an eye on her site.
